MISSION
FreeChurch Toronto exists to develop Christ-devoted,
no-nonsense, spiritually mature and motivated disciples.
HISTORY
FreeChurch Toronto was planted in January 2001 by Todd Cantelon and Gord Marriage as Freedomize Toronto. Shortly afterwards Gord accepted a pastoral position in Florida and David McGhee joined the leadership as Associate Pastor. The Church began attracting a new generation of Christians. For five years FreeChurch grew under the leadership of Todd Cantelon, and he then decided to step down to pursue opportunities in the media world.
David McGhee stepped into the Senior Pastorship, calling on his longtime friend and collaborator Cyril Guerette to join as Associate Pastor. The reputation of the Church as a funky force with hardcore biblical teaching continued to grow under his leadership, and the community was imprinted with his particular brand of culturally relevant reverence. In the Fall of 2008, David stepped down as Senior Pastor to focus on developing his writing and producing projects.
Cyril Guerette stepped into the role as Senior Pastor, with Kevin Makins coming on as an intern and eventually Associate Pastor. In September 2010 Kevin was sent with blessing and support to plant Eucharist Church in Hamilton. The Pastoral staff and Elders are actively pursuing an ambitious Vision for FreeChurch Toronto in 2012, hoping to expand upon its cultural influence, artistic reputation, and panache for developing sturdy Jesus-disciples who Do the Kingdom in Canada's largest urban environment.
